7.  Safety First: Tips for Motorcycle Enthusiasts

As thrilling as the ride can be, safety should always be a top priority. Here are some essential safety tips for motorcycle enthusiasts:

As stated previously, I am a safety-minded person, it is a culture that I appeal to.  I have been in construction for 30-plus years, Safety is very real and with it in mind, can make the longevity of this sport more attainable.  While the thrill of the ride is paramount, safety should never be compromised. Here are some essential tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey:

– Always wear a helmet and protective gear. I personally wear, gloves with knuckle protection, long-sleeved jackets or coats according to the weather with armor inserts for shoulders, back, and elbows.  I also wear protective pants with armor inserts at the hips and knees.  I rode motocross for years with my four boys, safety equipment is a staple in that sport, and so should it be for riding on the road.  I respect everyone’s decision regarding what they want to wear when riding, these are strictly my opinions from what I have experienced in the past.

– Obey traffic rules and speed limits.

– Stay alert and avoid distractions. Head on a swivel and eyes straight ahead.

– Check your motorcycle’s brakes and tires before each ride.  Checking the tire pressure is a must when riding these routes.  The stress the tires experience on some of these rides is only possible by maintaining the tire manufacturer’s suggested air pressure.

– Ride within your skill level and comfort zone.

Thank you for the great write-up!! I’m your neighbor to the north in northeastern Tennessee. My wife, my dad, and I moved here about 2-1/2 years ago from southern Kalifornia. We absolutely love it here!! I have a Honda Goldwing, and my wife and I love to ride! I have a list of close to 80 rides (so far) for this region that we have put together in a spreadsheet including rides in Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia. I’ve been in 49 states and have yet to find riding like I’ve found here in the southeast! Yes, it can be apples and oranges when comparing the rugged mountains of southern Kalifornia to the rolling hills of this region, but overall, this area takes the cake.

Thank you as well for iterating the paramount importance of safety. Like you, I always wear all the gear, all the time. No excuses. I wore full armor in the 130-degree heat of the desert out west, and I wear it here as well. A new jacket and/or pants is a lot cheaper than a skin graft.

I look forward to heading further south your way to experience some of the riding in GA. Ride safe, ride well, and ride often!

One last note: I belong to an online forum called “MCrider.” http://www.mcrider.com Kevin Morris is the founder of the group. You may have heard of it. It is the finest forum I have ever found for motorcycle enthusiasts who want to learn road skills and road strategies to improve our riding experience! I invite you to join us if you haven’t already.

Have a super spring season and thanks again!!

    Mike
